MTI

 IMCS-GB1700 is a 15KW induction melting system in a glovebox with the gas purification ( O2 & H2O < 1 ppm ), which is designed for melting and processing air-sensitive metallic alloys.

SPECIFICATIONS:

Structure

  • The 5"  quartz tube with a vacuum-sealed SS flange is built on the bottom of the standard glove box.
  • Graphite crucible with the thermal insulation layer is placed inside the quartz tube
  • The glovebox with a purification system and automatic purging function ensures both of oxygen and humidity less than 1 PPM in the whole system.  (Please click picture left for detail specifications of the glove-box)
  • One KF50  flange with dead cover is installed to connect the glovebox toa 2" tube furnace for annealing
  • 15KW induction coil surrounds the quartz tube for melting under an inert gas atmosphere with precision temperature control
  • The solidified alloy can be taken out and processed inside the glovebox, such as cutting, ball milling, and packing to keep the sample from the air.
Induction Heating

  • 15KW induction power supply is included  ( click picture left to see detail specification)
  • The induction coil surrounded the outside of 5" quartz tube to heat the crucible inside the tube.
  • The 2" graphite crucible is inserted inside of the induction coil for sample melting.
  • The fibrous alumina layer  surrounds the crucible as the thermal insulation layer
  • Precision temperature controller with 30 segments programmable is included with B type thermal couple, which can provide +/- 2ºC accuracy up to 1700ºC.
  • Note: for low melting point alloy, you may choose 7 kW induction power supply 
Water Chiller
  • The recirculating water chiller with a 16 L/minute flow rate is included for the cooling induction coil. 
  • Digital temperature control and alert are built in the chiller.

Quartz Tube and Flanges
  • 130mm(OD) x 122mm(ID) x 360mm(L) Quartz furnace tube is included, (click pic.1  for replacement )
  • Top Flange:  Hinged type with 1/4'' thermocouple feedthrough, needle valve, and barbed fitting. (Pic.2)
  • Bottom Flange: Stainless steel flange with a needle valve and KF-25 vacuum port. (Pic.3)
  • KF25 right angle valve & clamps and 1000mm long SS bellows are included for the vacuum pump. (Pic.4)
  • The vacuum pump is not included, please click Pic. 5  to choose one
  • Note:  The vacuum pump is not necessary because the purification system of the glovebox will make quartz tube O2 and H2O less than 1 PPM.

 Crucible & Refractory liners

  • High Purity Graphite Crucible: 2" OD x 1.57"ID x 4" Depth (4.3'' Height) is included.  
    • Max. sample capacity: 60% of the volume of the crucible.
  • Three-layer special design refractory liner for thermal insulation to keep quartz temperature < 200oC

  • Note:
  • Graphite crucible is consumable, please click the picture the above-right to order spare. 
  • The customized graphite crucible is available upon request.
  • BN liner is available upon request to avoid sample contamination from graphite.
  •  For low melting point alloys ( MP< 600oC),  such as Li, and Al-Mg alloys, Stainless steel ( SS316 ) is a better choice, which is available upon request.

Application Notes
  • A two-stage pressure regulator must be installed on the gas cylinder to limit the pressure to below 6 bars for safe operation
  • Regularly perform regeneration to maintain the optimum purification efficiency
  • The O2 sensor is consumable and its expected life span is around one year. Please order O2 sensor replacement at MTI at extra cost
